Couture Clips

I was so delighted when I learned that my second child was going to be a little girl.

I immediately ran out and started buying all of the accessories that I wasn’t able to with my son:  purses and headbands and barrettes and jewelry and lacy socks.

My daughter was born with hardly any hair…and what she had was thin and fine and couldn’t support even the lightest of barrettes. So I waited. And waited. And waited.

When she finally got to be old enough to wear all of the cute barrettes and hair doodles, she was about 3.

And we all know what happens to a lot of  little girls at 3. They have their own fashion sensibilities and it’s usually the opposite of whatever Mommy wants them to wear.

She rebelled against the hair accessory altogether. She still fights a lot of it: headbands hurt her head, barrettes have to be placed in a certain way, ponytails can’t be too tight.

If I thought I ever stood a chance of getting her to wear hair accessories, I’d be swooning over Couture Clips. I’m kind of swooning anyway, but it’s more in a “admire from afar” sort of way.

Couture Clips are fashion-forward children’s hair accessories that are uber-cute. They’re only sold through boutiques and retailers, so I won’t be citing any prices here – they’re not available on the manufacturer’s website. But they’re fun to look at.

These little caps have a classic, yet funky look that I love.

I also love their barrette collection. This little crocheted kitty? My daughter would think this was the best.thing.ever.

The ladybug design has plenty of sweet little details as well.

Couture Clips makes headbands, too – both firm and soft ones. This scottie dog style is fun for a prepster.

This headband with embellished flower would be beautiful for a portrait session or other professional photography shoot. I had my daughter’s baby photos taken with a big flower headband like this (even though she had no hair!) and they turned out just lovely.

If you think Couture Clips are as cute as I do, you can find their list of local retailers here.

I like the little chic knitted cap idea for baby girls who shouldn’t have small clips anywhere near them anyway, and stand a better chance of staying on. Works better for baldy babies, too. Nice and soft, no hard plastic or itchy fabric headbands.
