With the kids going back to school and long-sleeved shirts on the racks at the stores, it’s easy to forget (at least until you walk outside) that it’s still summer. I’m loving the China Glaze nail polish in Pool Party, and it’s one way I’m clinging to one of my favorite seasons of the year (I’ll probably pull it out in the winter just to fight back at the gloom).

The picture doesn’t do it justice; it is the brightest shade of warm, reddish pink I have ever seen, truly a neon nail polish. I’ve heard that layering it over a white polish will make it show up even brighter and truer to color. Without it, this particular shade of pink almost translates to neon reddish-orange. Almost. I still see pink but my daughter swears it’s orange.

It goes on mostly opaque with one coat, but two will even things out and give you a nice, creamy (almost matte) finish. The lasting power is average. I only tried it on my toes and the color chipped in about a week. I would expect it to last two or three days on fingernails, but that’s without a base or top coat.

Anyway I highly recommend the color, but for the best results, it’s going to take some work. A white coat of polish underneath and/or a base coat and top coat would probably do wonders for its tone and its longevity.
