Did you know that National Raisin Day is on April 30? Raisins are healthy, affordable snacks that even the pickiest of kids will enjoy. My son loves raisins, especially the vanilla yogurt raisins from Sun Maid. The mini snacks are the perfect size for school lunches or for enjoying as an after school snack.

I confess that I am quite fond of them too! There’s just something about the combination of the creamy yogurt and the sweetness of the raisins that is hard to resist.

If you want to try making an edible craft project with your kids to celebrate National Raisin Day, Sun Maid has some cute suggestions on their website. For example:

Of course, there’s always the classic “ants on a log” snack of peanut butter, celery, and raisins to fall back on as well. I remember this being the only way I was willing to try celery as a child. I still like this as a snack actually, but I just refer to it as raisins and celery with my son because the idea of insects crawling on my food kind of freaks me out these days.

I like keeping raisins on hand because we don’t live near a good grocery store and it’s hard for us to keep a lot of perishable food available. Raisins are a great pantry staple because you can eat them in so many different ways.

How will you be celebrating National Raisin Day? We’d love to hear some of your favorite raisin-related recipes!

Who decides these “national” days?? LOL, it’s so weird. But I love raisins too, especially the chocolate-covered kind, but the yogurt ones are a close second. When everyone else is eating popcorn at the movies, I am happiest with my raisins! My kiddo loves them too, but I haven’t been packing them in her lunch as often — they are perfect for little fingers.

I had no idea raisins had their own holiday. I now know what I’m giving the kids for their afternoon snack today :-)
