BubbleBum: An Inflatable Booster Seat For The Car!

I know what you’re thinking: I would never in a million years put my child in a plastic bag filled with air in the car instead of in a real booster seat. That can’t possibly be safe. But hold on! You haven’t seen the BubbleBum yet!

So what is the BubbleBum? It is the only cost-effective, portable, lightweight, safety approved, inflatable car booster seat for children aged between 4-11. You simply inflate it when you need it, and then it easily deflates and folds flat so that you can carry it wherever you need to go. So it’s perfect for rental cars, taxis, school trips or car pooling. Or if you’re like us and need to move car seats from one family vehicle to another, depending on who’s hauling which kids to wherever they need to go.

I can’t wait for my girls to get to four years old so I can get 3 BubbleBums for the backseat instead of those bulky car seats! And don’t worry – BubbleBum is serious about safety. BubbleBum meets or exceeds all federal safety guidelines for children between 4 and 11 years old who weigh 40 to 80 pounds. It’s safe to use in any vehicle except airplanes (due to the different requirements they have.)

The BubbleBum comes in a convenient carrying bag, and has shoulder belt positioning clips in place of arm rests. You can get one for about $40 – a price that seems absolutely worth it to me! I love the fact that you can fold it and take it with you…I think it would be great to give to grandparents and caregivers for convenience’s sake!

What do you think of the BubbleBum? I want one now!

Hmm, that looks interesting. I’m still skeptical, but I’d love to hear from someone who uses one first. There are other hard, portable booster seats in that price range I use for transport in cabs and for grandma’s car, etc.

I LOVE these BubbleBum Boosters! We took them on a trip and they pack down into a cute purple sack that is soooo much more convenient than our regular boosters. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave BubbleBum it’s highest safety rating…. Best Bet! I highly recommend them!

Keep in mind that the only real purpose of a booster is to lift up the child so that the adult lap and shoulder belts fit correctly. In traditional boosters, the low arm rests serve as belt positioners to keep the lap belt low on the child’s upper thighs instead of near the soft belly. A highback booster also positions the shoulder belt correctly and might offer some side-impact protection by preventing the child’s head from snapping violently to the side.

The BubbleBum is in the first category: boosts the child and keeps the lap belt off the tummy area.

There IS a piece of memory foam inside the BubbleBum, which helps to provide stability to the booster if it should happen to get punctured in a crash. But even then, it’s the belt clips that will be doing the lion’s share of the protecting by keeping the lap belt in place.

We love our BubbleBum – the car seats you get from hire companies abroad are usually very dodgy and have always seen better days. My daughter loves hers (she’s 4) so it makes it less of a battle and it seems to be as secure as the solid boosters my in-laws use… It’s been through all the safety tests so can’t imagine it isn’t as safe as houses – I’d give it 5 stars (plus DD likes sitting on it to reach the table too not intended use I know) ;-)
