Have you ever wondered if you were the only mom who thought about running away from her kids? Or what about admitting that you didn’t like your friend’s kids? Or even honestly being able to say that some days being a mom really sucks?
If you know that mommyhood isn’t always a good time and sometimes you wondered why you even had kids in the first place, then Jill Smokler’s book Confessions of a Scary Mommy is for you!
This book is actually being released today, but I got my hands on a copy a few months ago. I loved it. This is a book written by a mom to be read by other moms. It’s a book that you can read a few pages of whenever you have time, or if you are lucky enough to have a few hours to yourself, you can read it all in one sitting. It’s a fun read, and one that will even have you laughing out loud in some parts.
If you are a mom, you will relate to this book. Jill writes openly and honestly, but it has a very casual feel – it’s almost like you are sitting down and talking to Jill about motherhood; the good, the bad, and the scary of it.
This book is for real moms out there. It is written in a way that is supportive and makes you feel “normal” for being able to admit that motherhood isn’t always fun or enjoyable. This is a book you can pick up to read a few pages of on those days when being a mom sucks – just to remind yourself that it sucks for everybody sometimes. This is a book I know I will pick up to read when I want to runaway from the kids or when I just need a funny pick-me-up.
It’s worth reading, and it’s funny. It would make a great baby shower gift, too!
What do you think? Does Confessions of a Scary Mommy sound like a book you’d read?
