Basic Couture Kids’ Clothing

My daughter has a mind of her own – especially in fashion. Yes, she’s only 5. But she has very specific ideas about what she likes and doesn’t like. These ideas change on a monthly basis or so.

I’ve decided that fighting the battle of who picks out her clothes is not worth it. I let her choose her own things now, even though some days I cringe as she walks out the door in mismatched patterns.

Basic Couture to the rescue! Basic Couture will let my child have a say in her very own trendy and adorable clothing.

Basic Couture is a line of personalized children’s (and grownup!) clothing. Here’s how it works:

1. You pick out a silhouette – the style of the item. Basic Couture has T-shirts, dresses, hoodies, tank tops and much more.

2. Once you pick out the silhouette, you get to pick out your graphics and personalization. These are super cute, modern designs. They’re not over-the-top cutesy – they’re smart and cool. They have ornate flowers, peace signs, crowns and hearts for little gals, and guitars, cowboys and more for your little guys.  There are tons to choose from.

When you do the personalization portion, you can pick from tons of different fonts, and use initials, full names, etc. (may vary depending upon the silhouette).

And you end up with a totally unique item that’s just right for YOUR kid! What kid doesn’t love their names plastered all over everything?

Basic Couture uses environmentally friendly, water-based ink for their designs, and each shirt is custom made to order.

Each kids’ item runs roughly $25-$40 depending upon style. Adult apparel runs slightly higher (the adult apparel is pretty cool as well).

I love the women’s clothing as gift ideas for girlfriends, teachers, etc.

You can check out all of the available styles and graphics by going to the manufacturer’s website at Basic Couture.

Unless you have an unlimited budget, spending $30-40 on one shirt for a growing child seems a little rich for my blood. However, I do love the concept behind it and the samples are pretty great!

I can see getting one piece personalized for a special birthday or Christmas gift, but not as an everyday shopping experience. Maybe more for the adults, whose sizes (hopefully) don’t change much over the years!

I wonder how well the eco, water based paint holds becuase for forty bucks, i want my kid to be able to be a kid + keep the cloths in fresh shape for a while. I love the idea, i would get one shirt for myself.

Be weary in your order instructions and read or ask questions of size of graphics and inks that are true in color. Our order had several items that were to small in size which I was told if my child wears an 8, I should of ordered a 12 or larger. Since it’s a water based ink, it does not come out dark like in the photos, but faded and really faded if you order it on a colored garment. Graphics look great on the photos but tend to be quite a bit smaller on most of our garments. When I called to get help for several items that were unsatisfactory, I was told that they are a small company and cannot take any items back due to the customization of each item. Also, I should of ordered items on white if I wanted a contrast in color because linen evidently is too dark. Ordered 12 items from them but will never order from them again, especially for that price and their company unwilling to fix any botched items.
