Okay, I feel really dumb, but I tried everything to get the flowers to appear on this Barbie’s tail before I finally took an ice cube directly to the flowers on there. Finally, finally (!!), the color there changed and the flowers turned purple.
I thought making the change was supposed to be as simple as cold and warm water, but just know that there will be freezing hands involved.
That said, my daughter’s obsessed with this Barbie even though she’s never seen the movie she’s from, Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2. Now that the novelty of making the flowers change color has worn off, this doll is a fantastic bath time toy. I’m a little relieved that ice cubes aren’t melting all over the place these days and the Barbie just stays in the bathroom, waiting for the next bath/playtime.
My daughter puts the mesh bag from a Disney Princess foam toys set around her feet and pretends that she and the Barbie are mermaid friends in the ocean together.
The doll is absolutely beautiful with her dark brown and pink hair and turquoise and magenta color scheme, and I think the quality is on par with—if not better than—most Barbie dolls.
Despite the bathtub abuse, her hair is relatively silky and she looks just like she did the day she came out of the box. I remember playing with Barbies in the tub and their hair quickly became a complete mess of tangles in no time.
I don’t know if this would be the case for the other Barbie dolls inspired by the movie, but they all seemed well made while my daughter was trying to make her decision about which one she wanted to buy.
