Aunt Susan’s Quillow

Aunt Susan’s Quillow

What is it about kids that make them such discriminating consumers of blankets and pillows?

Is it their uber-soft, not-damaged-by-the-world skin?

Kids are really picky about their pillows and blankets – at least mine are. They know what they like, and what they do like, they want a lot of.

I’ve had numerous blankets rejected due to being “too scratchy,” pillows turned away for being “hard,” and I’ve also gotten the dreaded “it’s not COZY or SNUGGLY.”

I found this unique item today over at Ambajam. It’s called a Quillow – a quilted pillow.

This is a handcrafted pillow measuring 16″ x 16″ – a good size. It’s made of 100% cotton flannel – check, it meets the coziness factor.

Quillows are washer and dryer safe, too.

What I really like about this pillow, aside from the gorgeous handmade feel it has, is the textural look. The little nubby areas between the squares of flannel appear to be just the thing my child would rub her hands across for comfort – assuming they’re not scratchy!

The pillow comes in two color schemes – pink/orange, and blue/red (website says blue/red, but the pillow shown is blue and a bright green).

Handcrafting doesn’t come cheap, though. The Quillow is $75. Ouch! I really want one for myself and one for each child. But at $75, I don’t know that I’d want to let them use the Quillow when they needed it most.

On the days when they’re puking up last night’s dinner or sneezing snot all over the place, I’d be torn as to whether to take care of them, or the pillow, first!

If you’d like to order an Aunt Susan’s Quillow, you can get more info at Ambajam.

It’s the eternal battle of style vs. practicality. I couldn’t spend $75 on a pillow and expect my child to take care of it, that’s unfair to both of us. Save them for the the guest room until your kids are old enough to use them.

not good for me either. it is a decorative item. so when the money will be in abundance, and i will be on the lookout of “what else to buy” i will remember this cute pillow. i dont think it’s large enough for sleeping anyway. i like mine rectangular.
