Gummy, fruit-flavored snacks are one of my son’s favorite things to eat, but as I’m sure many of you are aware, a lot of the major brands of these products don’t contain much in the way of actual fruit.
This is why I was pleased to be able to sample Stretch Island Fruit Co.’s Fruit Strips and Fruitabü. These products are made with real fruit and have no synthetic preservatives, artificial flavors, artificial colors, or chemical additives. They have no added sugar.
The Fruit Strips are a flat strip, while the Fruitabü is a roll-up type snack. My son admitted that while both were very tasty, he preferred the Fruitabü because it was more fun to “play†with. He also thought the packaging of the Fruitabü was clever because it contained monkey facts and his first grade class is studying monkeys at school as part of a unit on zoo animals.
Fruitabü flavors include Smooshed Apple, Smooshed Grape, and Smooshed Strawberry. The Smooshed Grape was my son’s favorite.
The Fruit Strip flavors include Abundant Apricot, Autumn Apple, Harvest Grape, Mango Sunrise, Orchard Cherry, Ripened Raspberry, and Summer Strawberry. I thought the Ripened Raspberry Fruit Strips were especially good.
Aside from their tasty snacks, one thing I thought was interesting about the Stretch Island Fruit Co. was its Fruit Tree 101 project. This was an effort the company established in 2007 to plant fruit trees at elementary schools across the country to teach kids about nutrition and sustainability. I like the idea of supporting a company that tries to give back to its young customers.
