If you’re looking for something really creative to do when decorating your child’s room, I’d suggest coating one of the walls with Rust-Oleum Dry Erase Paint to create a giant canvas for your little artist to explore.
According to the product website, this paint is safe for drywall, masonite, wood, cement, and metal. However, you need to let it dry for two days before using the surface as a spot for doodling.
My son has one of the walls in his room painted with chalkboard paint. He loves it now just as much as he did when we painted it three years ago. When he has friends over, they are always thrilled to be allowed to draw on the walls. But, the chalk dust is messy to deal with and leaves funny colored marks on his light carpet if we aren’t careful.
And, since the chalkboard wall is black, it makes his room look a little smaller than it otherwise would. As soon as I can muster up the energy to move all of the furniture out of his room, I’m repainting the wall with Rust-Oleum Dry Erase Paint.
If you don’t want to paint a wall from floor to ceiling, I’d suggest stenciling a definite border around the spot you’ve selected. You don’t want your kids to get confused about where they are allowed to draw!
